Another year is here and that means another year of new (and sometimes revived) fashion trends. Each year is defined by its style and its fashion icons. Say goodbye to grandma-style floral and welcome retro polka dots and leopard print! There are some of 2018’s most anticipated fashion introductions and revivals:
Denim
This trend has seen so many revivals over the years. Denim was invented in the 1870s as a useful tool for workers to protect their skin from harsh conditions. It has since seen a boom in the 1970s (bell-bottomed flower power) and the 1990s. Jeans have always been a staple in fashion, regardless of the year, but in 2018 you’ll see it start to take over. People will be full-on denim from head to toe. As you’re building the perfect trendy get-up, remember that Body Bark offers a variety of tops to add comfort and versatility. Whether you want to layer denim with denim or throw a denim jacket over your favorite outfits, you’ll be trending in the upcoming seasons.
Knit Sweaters
Tis the year to be comfortable! While high fashion is still a large influencer on everyday styles, the trends are becoming less form-fitting and slouchy. Knit sweaters are no longer just for your grandma. If you’re worried about your sweater riding up, being see-through, or itching, wear a long sleeve Body Bark crew neck and stay comfortably. This particular sweater from J. Crew can be dressed up for work with a pair of black pants and heels or dressed down for a lunch with your friends with jeans and cute fall booties.
Polka Dots
This iconic pattern has been seen throughout the decades, and it’s making a comeback in 2018, but there’s a new year update: pattern mixing. While the ‘70s may have filled our ever dream with polka dots, this time we’re pairing them with florals and stripes for a modern, artistic look. While polka dots are a fun pattern, they can also be used in the office. Pair these NIC + ZOE pants with a simple Body Bark droop neck top and a cozy blazer or cardigan. Body Bark offers the perfect foundation items to build your modern spotted fashion.
Bell Sleeves
Proof that retro is back! Bell sleeves can actually be traced all the way back to medieval times with those big poofy gowns and giant wigs. They made a giant comeback in the ‘70s with the flower child movement and now they’re in style again. I’ve been waiting for this trend to come back and I am so excited to revamp my wardrobe! If you’re worried about the flowy sleeves not being warm enough, try wearing a long sleeve Body Bark top underneath. You will get the same stylish effect with added comfort! On warmer days, wear a Body Bark tank top or camisole (shown here) under sheer tops like this Chelsea28 blouse.
Leopard Print
We’re going to see a Cheetah Girl revival too, right? While leopard print has had its ups and downs in the fashion world, but 2018 is determined to bring it back with class and poise. Leopard print can be dressed up or dressed down, however, there is a certain tact to dressing the pattern and avoiding a tacky look. Pair leopard print statement items with simple foundations and classy accessories. Body Bark offers a variety of shirts that you can build your leopard-inspired outfit off of. Try this Halogen wool jacket with a black Body Bark turtleneck for those cold days downtown.
Women’s Suits
2018 is welcoming in a more androgynous style for both men and women. This means baggy sweaters, less form-fitting pants and lots of suits. Don’t be afraid of suits, ladies! Suits can still show a feminine figure and can show your determination in a professional setting. If you’re easing into the world of suits, try this Jukani suit paired with a Body Bark white v-neck neck top. This suit is professional with some structure, but is still fitted to show your figure; plus, the jacket is definitely cute enough to wear on its own with jeans!
2018 is here and it’s coming in HOT. Each of these style trends for the new year is flashbacks from previous decades, but the way they’re styled is bringing life to 2018. Send us some of your favorite 2018 styles featuring a Body Bark item!
